SUMMARY: 
Assist the building principal in performing leadership of educational programs to maximize student learning, as well as effective management and operation of the building. Assist with leading, managing, evaluating and supervising effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of Kennedy High School and Bloomington Public Schools. This includes instructional programs, student support and management systems, program evaluation, co-curricular activities, personnel management, and emergency procedures to ensure a safe and supportive school learning environment. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the principal in the overall leadership of the school.
  2. Support a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement around a vision of belonging, support, and excellence. 
  3. Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
  4. Continually monitor student progress and outcomes.  Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement through implementation of equity-centered, culturally proficient and restorative professional learning. 
  5. Lead and coordinate key school functions such as student support systems/MTSS, restorative practices, and testing. 
  6. Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with staff, students, parents, and community members through all programs and activities.
  7. Support creating a high performing staff through effective hiring and evaluation systems. Develop, coach, train, and mentor staff.   
  8. Ensure compliance with all laws, school board policies, and school district procedures.
  9. Assist with supervising the instructional programs of the school on a regular basis to ensure the use of effective instructional strategies, content and materials consistent with research on learning, student growth and development.
  10. Ensure a safe, supportive environment that encourages staff and students to take ownership for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
  11. Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model.
  12. Participate in professional development workshops, activities, and seminars.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Current K-12 /Secondary Principal License (Minnesota)
  2. A minimum of three to five years of successful classroom teaching or other related school experience; previous high school leadership experience preferred
  3. Master’s Degree or another advanced degree from an accredited institution
  4. Demonstrates success as an instructional leader with a strong vision for the future
  5. Demonstrates a commitment to equitable practices, including an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and functions
  6. Proven expertise and commitment to best practices and continuous improvement
  7. Demonstrates ability to hold self and others accountable to high professional standards
  8. Strong skills in communication, problem solving, and public and interpersonal relations
  9. Possesses exemplary professional ethics and personal integrity
  10. Technologically proficient
  11. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES:

  1. Significant public high school leadership experience with a large and diverse educational high school community preferred
  2. Ability to independently and competently lead work upon start, with a strong desire and ability to collaborate with leadership team. 
  3. Ed.S Degree in Secondary School Administration or K-12 School Administration
