Position Description:

  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a national college readiness system with the mission to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.  The AVID program has been in Lakeville Area Public Schools since the 2008-09 school year.
  • Follow the AVID tutorial model; student led collaborative learning groups.
  • Determine from student notes and discussions, the concepts that need clarification.
  • Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
  • Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Libraries.
  • Maintain good rapport and leadership within the classroom setting.
  • Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
  • Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID teacher and fellow tutors regarding student progress and areas of concern.
  • Attend training sessions as required.


 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current college student or two or four year college degree completed
  • Experience working with middle & high-school aged students
  • Experience working as a tutor in one-on-one or group settings
  • Must have a strong academic Math, English (writing and literacy), Science, and Social Studies background
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body


  • Schools participating in the AVID program are Lakeville North High School, Lakeville South High School, Century Middle School, Kenwood Trail Middle School, McGuire Middle School, and Alternative Learning Center (ALC)
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays (times dependent on individual schedules)
  • 3 – 6 hours per day / Maximum 13.5 hours per week 
  • Casual position, not benefit eligible 

Rate of Pay:

  • Pay rate: $17.39 per hour
