The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our Secondary Team as a Credit Recovery/Credit Acceleration Teacher. Credit Recovery Teacher will establish and maintain a positive culture for learning and utilizing best practices in student engagement and instruction. Using formative and summative assessments data to inform instructional practices. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Targeted Services Summer School Lead. BCCS is looking for applicants driven to uphold our Mission: To become a justice-center school community who fuels the unique genius of each student.

Essential Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develops positive rapport with students, parents & staff.

  • Has knowledge and skills in meeting the academic, social, and emotional growth of youth in grades 9-12.

  • Supervises students to ensure a safe, supportive, culturally responsive, equitable, and welcoming learning environment.

  • Monitors, advises, coaches, and supports student behavior management to ensure a safe, supportive, welcoming learning environment.

  • Provide weekly updates to students, families, and program leadership detailing student progress toward credit completion.

  • Assesses, identifies and evaluates needs of students; provides instruction in individual or group sessions; establishes and maintains standards of behavior.

  • Other duties as assigned; may include supervision of field trips, breakfast/lunch services etc.

Pay and Benefits: Based on contract and qualifications
Duty Days: Monday-Thursday | June 21st- July 29th |  8:15 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.

Knowledge, Skills and, Abilities Preferred: 

  • Valid MN 7-12 or 9-12 Teaching License 
  • Previous APEX, online, and high school experience preferred. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of subject(s) taught.
  • Thorough knowledge of elementary, secondary or special education principles, practices and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of effective teaching principles and methodology.
  • Thorough knowledge of school and district rules, regulations and procedures
  •  Good judgment and decision making
  • Moderate experience working in a school district or administrative office.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and urban school settings preferred.
  • Education or experience in child development or elementary education.


Physical Requirements
