Job Title: DECS Monitor

Hourly Rate: $13.00


This position exists to provide general supervision of students during the school day and provide breaks through outdoor time or in classrooms as needed for teaching staff.  The monitor may also be called upon to work in the essential workers child care program.  The Monitor promotes a safe and healthy environment and provides appropriate role modeling for students and other staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain positive communication/interactions with students

  • Active Supervision – which consists of the following basic components:

    • Circulate throughout the assigned areas 

    • Maintain a constant presence and remain attentive to the activities of the students

    • Staying in a reasonable proximity to the areas of activity.

    • Keeping all students easily in sight.

    • Avoiding distractions.

  • Student behavior monitoring and intervention:

    • Being knowledgeable of and consistently enforcing schools rules and policies.

    • Ensuring students are following social distancing, masking and other school rules in the hallways and bathrooms 

  • Checking the hallways and bathrooms for any cleaning or other safety needs, do minor cleaning needs in both areas, call on custodians for more cumbersome needs  

  • Responding appropriately to emergencies.

  • Encourage social distancing and mask wearing 

  • Document ALL unexpected behavior in the communication log with all required information, and notify Dean of Students of any immediate harm or danger.

  • If needed, the monitor could be involved in staff of essential workers child care program or other classroom needs

Education and/or Experience 

No prior experience or training is required.  Experience with children in grades K-8 preferred.

Language Skills 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills 

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide.

Reasoning Ability 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
