EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION ASSISTANT

Hours: 17.5 hours per week
Start/End Times: Tuesday 8:30 am – 11:45pm and 5:30pm – 7:45pm, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30am – 3:00pm (Weds and Thurs will have 1/2 unpaid lunch break)

145 days per year
Wage: Classifed as A-1-2 $16.68 – $20.31 depending on experience per LEAF contract

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
1. Assist the classroom teacher in preparing the classroom environment for instruction and in any other way the teacher feels is necessary. Any remaining time will be used for future preparation.
2. Assist with beginning of the year set-up, mid-year and end-of-year clean-up.
3. Independently supervise, care for and do activities with children enrolled in sibling care.
4. Maintain appropriate sanitation at all times in the classroom and in sibling care. See that the diapering stations remain clean and orderly.
5. Manage and comfort children who are experiencing distress at being separated from parent or caregiver in a calm, friendly, yet firm manner.
6. Independently initiate activities with individual and small groups of children and be self-motivated.
7. Establish and maintain a positive relationship with parents and children and program staff.
8. Prompt attendance is expected. Time is given to assist the teacher with classroom set-up, clean-up and prep and to participate in the logging process after class.
9. Be a contributing member of the classroom and program team.
10. Attend staff meetings and trainings as requested by the ECFE Manager.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Specific training or job experience required before appointment):
1. 18 years of age, high school diploma or GED
2. Experience and/or training in care of infants, toddlers and preschoolers preferred
3. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
4. Experience with technology preferred. Minimum level of computer skill required.
