Elementary 5th & 6th Grade Sceince Classroom Teacher

The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Public School is looking for an energetic 5th & 6th Grade Science Teacher who wants to make a difference in the lives of each and every student who walks through their doors.  We are a small school located in central Minnesota.  We are an hour’s drive from St. Cloud, 2-hour drive from the Twin Cities, 30 minutes for Alexandria, and 3 hours from Duluth.  We are surrounded by area lakes, parks, and have one of the last Drive-In Movie theatres in Minnesota.  We have a diverse community consisting of European, Mexican, Caribbean, and other nationalities.  Fifty two percent of our student population identifies as Hispanic.  Todd County is also home of an active Amish population.  We serve the communities of Grey Eagle, Burtrum, and Long Prairie.

 

Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the elementary classroom teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum. This involves documenting teaching and student progress, addressing individual student needs, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. Additionally, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers elementary Science curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment conducive to individualized and small group instruction, as well as student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, ensuring alignment with student needs and curriculum objectives.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, modifying instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
  • Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subjects specified in applicable laws and administrative regulations.
  • Continues professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, and conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures student conduct aligns with school standards and policies, maintaining a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborates with other elementary staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies, and maintains inventory records.
  • Supervises students during out-of-classroom activities and administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators.

Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.

Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiation based on student learning styles.
  • Familiarity with elementary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Proficiency in data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
  • Understanding of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication skills with students and parents.
  • Capacity for self-evaluation and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile Certification/License:

  • MN State Certification as an Elementary Teacher.
  • MN State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Experience:

  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels preferred.
