Hours of Work: 7 hours/day; 35hrs/week, 173 days/year
Salary/Hourly Rate:  Paraprofessional Class IV: $18.65 or above depending on qualifications

SUMMARY:
Provides students with instructional support and assistance and supervise students in the lunchroom, playground, or other designated locations to insure a positive, safe environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Supervises large groups of students in the lunchroom, playground, or the classroom.
  • Directs movement of groups to and from classrooms, playground, and lunchroom in a safe and organized manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for monitoring student behavior; ensures student safety, administers appropriate consequences in response to unacceptable behavior, encourages peaceful resolution of conflicts, and reports unacceptable behavior to the principal, as needed.
  • Makes suggestions for and supervises group games and activities on the playground.
  • Assumes responsibility for outdoor play equipment; reports safety hazards.
  • Completes routine paperwork and performs record-keeping activities related to monitoring activities.
  • Attends to minor medical needs including carrying and dispensing band-aids, providing cloths for nosebleeds, and other minor needs.
  • Works with students individually or in small groups in and out of regular classrooms under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Reinforces the instructional plan laid out by the classroom teacher.
  • Provides instructional assistance and motivates students in all subject areas.
  • Plans and prepares study aids such as flash cards and worksheets.
  • Assists teacher with classroom activities; leads breakout sessions.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

  • Two (2) years post-secondary education OR a passing ParaPro Score.
  • One  (1) year of curriculum support experience.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Required Knowledge and Skills
