Position:  LPN/ARN – Licensed Practical Nurse/Associate Registered Nurse
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 7:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m., Student Contact Days
Start Date: As soon as possible.
Pay: Starting pay is $20.70 – $26.84 per hour dependent on qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Current LPN license in accordance with the MN Board of Nursing
  • Current training in CPR and First Aid
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior nursing experience

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emergency care, first aid, and management of all illnesses and injuries as provided for in the ISD 622 first aid and emergency care procedures
  • Provide care for children with symptoms of illness and/or injury, notifying parents/guardians when appropriate
  • Communicate medication administration policies and procedures to parents/guardians
  • Administer medication in accordance with physicians’ orders and parent/guardian authorization, the School Board policy, under LSN/RN supervision, and using ISD 622 procedures
  • Prior to the start of the school year, assess immunization status of all students to ensure entrance requirements are met
  • Maintain immunization records throughout the school year by compiling and entering data, requesting records from previous schools, notifying parents/guardians if records are not current or complete, and completing the State Immunization Report
  • Accurately maintain a daily log of students seen and cared for in the Health Office, ensuring that this information is entered into the District’s student information system daily
  • Perform and maintain an accurate record of vision and hearing screenings and follow-up activities (phone calls and mailings) requested by staff, parents/guardians, and supervisor.  These activities must also be documented in the District’s student information system.  Send referrals directly to parents/guardians.
  • Maintain individual health plans/emergency care plans for students with health concerns under the supervision of the LSN
  • Monitor hearing aids and phonetic ears for students served by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program
  • Maintain electronic records for students with acute and/or chronic health concerns
  • Maintain health and emergency cards for all students and staff
  • Initiate school accident/incident reports within 24 hours of the accident/incident
  • Attend the annual mandatory Blood Borne Pathogens Training
  • Maintain current knowledge of OSHA standards
  • Assist legal authorities as requested by the Principal
  • Attend required in-service education offerings, CPR, and First Aid training
  • Perform office functions for the Health Office such as answering the phone; responding to voicemail and e-mail promptly and accurately; filing; data entry; ordering and keeping an inventory of supplies; and maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly Health Office including health information displays, brochures, and bulletin boards
  • Report and follow up on student attendance (public elementary locations only)
  • Other related duties as assigned
