Job Title: Middle School Special Education Teacher (EBD/ASD Preferred)

Location: Watertown Mayer Pulbic School District, Watertown, MN

Job Summary: The Middle School Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs in a middle school setting. Candidates with licenses or certifications in Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are preferred.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, with a focus on meeting academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
  2. Provide differentiated instruction and accommodations to support the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities in inclusive and resource settings.
  3. Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated support for students with disabilities.
  4. Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies and interventions accordingly.
  5. Implement evidence-based interventions and behavioral supports to address challenging behaviors and promote positive social interactions.
  6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, including IEP goals, progress reports, and behavior intervention plans.
  7. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support.
  8. Participate in professional development activities to stay abreast of best practices in special education and evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities.
  9. Adhere to all state and federal regulations governing special education services and maintain compliance with Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or building administration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education with endorsements in Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) preferred.
  • Experience working with middle school-aged students with disabilities, particularly those with emotional/behavioral challenges or autism spectrum disorders.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practices in special education and familiarity with behavioral interventions and supports.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
