The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking a School Social Worker to join our secondary guidance team for the remainder of the 2023-2024 SY!  Under general supervision, the Social Worker promotes and supports students’ academic, mental health, and social success by providing professional level casework services, direct services, and consultation with a multidisciplinary team. Assists with the identification of disabilities through evaluation, data collection, and intervention. Assists with crisis planning and response. Assists with connecting to appropriate external resources as necessary; consults with families and staff daily to support student’s success in the education and social environment. Collaborate and work alongside a great guidance team to support students and families through a community schools model!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides a safe, trusting space for students
  • Provides direct and indirect social work services to students experiencing mental health, social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems that interfere with their performance in school; assist with crisis support
  • Performs special education due process-related duties and responsibilities; serves as administrative designee on Individual Education Plan (IEP) team – facilitating meetings, IEP planning and writing, IEP case management, complete due process paperwork; participates in the completion of special education evaluations
  • Provides direct social/emotional/behavioral skill service to special education students; evaluates and assess students with suspected disabilities; performs mental health screenings; provides mental health support
  • Connects students and families with basic needs resources; communicates, problem solves and shares information with community partners.
  • Participates in the building teams such as Child Study Team, Problem Solving Team teams; reviews referral data; assists staff in choosing, implementing, and monitoring interventions.
  • Provides consultation and training to staff on mental health, social, emotional, and behavioral topics.
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration among school, home, and community providers. 
  • Works with team and building staff regarding 504s, McKinney-Vento eligibility and coordination, health needs, and child protection. 

Knowledge, Skills and, Abilities Preferred: 

  • Prior experience working in a school setting preferred
  • Prior experience with special education due process requirements preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, methods, and techniques used for assessing sociological needs of individual students
  •  Thorough knowledge of federal and state mandates and local procedures and regulations relating to social and community support programs
  •  Thorough knowledge of school and district rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Good judgment and decision making

Qualifications: Certification/License: Licensed through the MN Board of Social Work and through MDE, Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work or closely related field

Pay and Benefits: Competitive Pay and Benefits based on the contract
Duty Day: 7:45-3:30
