Description:           
The Supervisor of Special Services, under the direction of the Director of Special Services, is responsible for the ongoing design, leadership, and implementation of special education services for children birth to age 21 in the Hopkins School District.  This particular position’s focus will be that of Elementary grades, K through 6th.

 
Essential Functions:           
Program Planning and Implementation

  • Supports diverse students, families and staff with service delivery for students on IEPs

  • Co-collaborates with building/site administrators and special education staff to create comprehensive special education programs that reflect the district’s Vision 2031 plan

  • Facilitates program planning, design, implementation and evaluation activities; including data collection and data analysis

  • Addresses compliance with state and federal laws and rules regarding education and the rights of students with disabilities

  • Can navigate conflict management and dispute resolutions

  • Reviews and shares effectiv and engaging research-based instructional programs with special education staff and service providers

  • Is successful in supporting teams with positive behavior supports for students

  • Has knowledge of Restorative Culture practices

  • Assists in the development and implementation of MTSS, PBIS, and curriculum and instruction.

  • Perform staff evaluations

 
Other Functions:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.

 
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold current licensure for Director of Special Education or actively seeking licensure for Director of Special Education. Must complete this within two years of the initial start date of the position.

                                   
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold a current Minnesota license as director of special education or actively seeking licensure for Director of Special Education. Must complete this within two years of the initial start date of the position.

  • Two-three years of administrative/coordinator experience in elementary special education preferred

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills desired

  •  Knowledge of a variety of program models which are effective and supported in current research.

  • Ability to build supportive relationships with colleagues, parents and students.

  • Knowledge of IDEA, 504, TPB and current state and federal rules and regulations.
