Substitute teaching in Minnesota requires either a full teaching license, or “short call” substitute teaching license.  As a certified substitute teacher, you’ll be able to take daily teaching jobs in any setting and subject area throughout the school year, including high schools, special education.
If you have a Bachelor’s degree, or are in an educator preparation program and have completed your student teaching, you can acquire a substitute teaching license and begin making well over $100 per day doing rewarding work at a time of need. New in 2023, some schools are also participating in a pilot program that allows those with an Associate’s degree, or that have been working in the school as a paraprofessional for at least a year, to receive a substitute teaching license and a guaranteed minimum pay rate of $200/day!

Daily Substitute Teaching Pay Rates Across Minnesota

Pay rates for daily substitute teaching jobs are set by each district and charter.  Typically, schools pay for either a full-day or half-day.  Some schools provide incentive pay for repeating service and hard-to-fill assignments.  The following rates are the average minimum and maximum daily pay, provided in August 2023.
