High School Counselor

Full time (1.0 FTE) position
2021-2022 School Year
To contribute towards a comprehensive school-counseling program which includes academic, career, and personal social domains designed to fit the needs of MHS’s student population and characteristics.  The school counselor provides programming, which includes conflict resolution skills, coping and refusal skills, character education, diversity, and study skills.

  • Current Minnesota Teaching Licensure for School Counselor


  • Three years of experience in social work/counseling
  • Experience working with high school/upper middle school students
  • Experience/training with CLR (Culturally Linguistically Responsive) methods preferred

Essential Skills Required:

  • Experience working with diverse students and families and alternative pathways to graduation
  • Awareness of best practices for secondary counseling/procedures
  • Effective communication and teaming skills, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, teachers, administrators, community and staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to plan and present to large and small groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and ethical practices.
  • Willingness to be flexible and excellent attendance
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students and families
  • Assist with supervision of students during non-academic education activities
