Community of Peace Academy is an urban public charter school located on the East Side of St. Paul Minnesota serving over 800 students in grades PreK to 12.  T  We take pride in being a diverse community of students and staff committed to educating the whole person –  mind, body and will – for peace, justice, freedom, compassion, wholeness and fullness of life for all.   

We are seeking a K-4 Academic Intervention Specialist.  The Academic Intervention Specialist will provide academic intervention and support to general education students with academic skills deficits and/or below grade level performance in the general classroom and in dedicated breakout spaces.

This position has been created in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are seeking additional support for the 2022-2023 school year to support students’ academic growth. 


Position Responsibilities

  1. Mindset: Promote and model the philosophy, mission and vision of Community of Peace Academy. Promote and model an asset-based mindset of high academic and character expectations for all students.

  2. Intervention Identification & Implementation: In consultation with the Data and Instructional Coaches and classroom teachers, identify students in need of intervention. Plan and implement evidence based academic interventions for identified students. Administer interventions and conduct ongoing progress monitoring. Establish and communicate intervention learning goals and timetables for progress monitoring. Write lesson plans for small group or individual instruction. 

  3. Communication and Reporting: Communicate with the Data and Instructional Coaches and classroom teachers regarding students’ needs, instructional planning and student progress. Provide regular progress reports to families, teachers and administrators. Maintain student service records. Prepare for and facilitate routine data meetings. 

  4. Other duties as requested in support of ongoing student achievement and school improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes Required

  • Knowledge of core academic content and standards across elementary grades.

  • Knowledge of and experience working with FASTBridge assessments and reports.

  • Understanding of reading and math developmental learning progressions. 

  • Considerable skill in providing academic interventions to elementary school-age students in math and reading.

  • Ability to make data-driven decisions in an educational environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to access and utilize web-based applications and spreadsheets.

  • Strong organizational skills, including scheduling and time-management.

  • Strong ability to be self-directed and autonomous in carrying out work duties.

  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.

  • Ability to exercise professionalism and confidentiality, and maintain student dignity in all circumstances.

  • Ability to communicate with families regarding student progress in intervention.

  • Prior teaching or intervention experience required.

  • Elementary Teaching License

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • K-12 Reading License

  • 5+ years of classroom teaching experience with proven impact on student achievement

  • Knowledge of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) models and processes

  • Knowledge of and experience with PRESS reading interventions
