Position: Project Aware/Mental Health Coordinator 
Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
Location: District Wide
Hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, 220 day annual contract

Position Details:

The Project AWARE/Mental Health Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of Comprehensive School Mental Health Systems, and a Multi-Tiered System of Support Model (MTSS) focusing on the social, emotional and behavioral needs of students. This position will assistn the district with developing a strategic plan and carrying forwardd the implementation of mental health and social-emotional behavioral interventions with fidelity using a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens. The focus of this position will be on each of the district’s mental health continuuum of care. This position will work closely and in partnership with the district admin team and school leadership teams. This position is funded through a grant from Minnesota Department of Educationn.  

Description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Managing and supporting the project requirement and implementation.  

  • Managing relationships with project partners.  

  • Functions in a leadership role on the administrative team.  

  • Oversee implementation of clinical services.   

  • Work with staff and partners to augment project goals, services and resources. 
  • ?Implement the ability to respond immediately on-site, through the employment of at least one mental health professional in each grant-funded school, if a school-aged youth exhibits behavioral signs warranting the need for clinical attention.  
  • Provide coordinated referral, services, and follow-up, to school-aged youth and their families for evidence-based school and community-based mental health practices and services.  

  • Establish relationships with local businesses, families and community groups to broaden and link all community resources available to school-aged youth and their families.  

  • In conjuction with other district staff, the Project AWARE Coordinator will plan and implemet professional development as needed both district-wide and at school sites. Ability to conduct professional development and has a thorough understanding of trauma-informed practices, culturally responsive practices, restoraative practices, social-emotional learning, PBIS, and mental health. 

  • Knowledge of trauma informed practices and experience with systematically implementing trauma informed practices into a school/agency as well as on a student level. 

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree and licensed by MN Professional Education and Standards Board (PELSB) as a School Social Worker or School Counselor OR Master’s Degree and license in mental health-related field and experience working within school settings, with ability to obtain the PELSB licensure. 

  • Possess a valid driver’s license

  • Five years post-masters experience providing social/emotional/behavioral/mental health interventions within a school settting and/or mental health treatment setting. 

  Skills and knowledge required:

  • Applicable District policies and local, state and federal laws, codes and regulations.  

  • Excellent project management skills with experiencce in managing and supervising administrative projects.  

  • Possess excellent organizational skills.  

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.  

  • Good understanding of the organization’s overall business and its objectives.  

  • Abillity to work within a team and provide support to the building-level staff. 
  • Regular travel to schools and required training 
  • There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position.
