7 – Special Education Educational Assistant positions. These positions are to provide support and supervision of level III DCD Special Education students. The positions is from July 12-28, T/W/Th only from approximately 8am to 12pm. The positions are for 4.25 hrs allowing for 15 minutes spent on either end of the class depending on need. Current sped staff will be paid their regular rate of pay, non-sped staff will be paid $16.81 per hour. You must be available for all scheduled days of ESY.

Qualifications: One of the following required: (1) Two year Associate of Arts degree; OR (2) The equivalent of 60 semester credits OR (3) A portfolio demonstrating MN Core Competencies for Paraprofessionals OR (4) A passing score on the MN Para Pro Test. High School Diploma required. Experience working with students with special needs. Ability and willingness to take direction from the case manager. Trained or willingness to be trained in strategies such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), visual schedules, social stories, and positive behavior supports. Ability to implement the strategies identified above. Ability to collect and report data as directed by the case manager. Trained or willing to be trained in certain medical procedures. Trained in CPI restraining techniques. Ability and willingness to participate in a variety of physical activities with students. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, assist with personal care (e.g., toileting, lifting, diapering, feeding, motor activities, medicating) or one-on-one care if necessary and work with bodily fluids.
Positions will be awarded based on seniority at a bidding meeting on Monday, May 9th at 3:45 pm in the Falcon Room of the District Office. You do not have to be a SpEd Para or EA to work during ESY, but SpEd Paras/EAs are given priority. In the past, there have been enough positions for both SpEd and non SpEd staff. You must attend the bidding meeting to bid on a position. If you have extenuating circumstances that prohibit you from attending please contact your union steward.
