 Position:  2023 STARS Summer Academy School Cultural Liaison

 Location:  Garlough Elementary School

 Dates and Hours:  July 8th – August 8th, No Fridays; 7:30am – 1:30pm
  

Position Summary: Community liaisons understand the value of and are committed to effective partnerships between schools, families and communities. They serve as advocates to our Spanish speaking families and students and build trusting relationships that ensure equitable access to school and district services. Community Liaisons work in collaboration with a variety of school and district staff members to support and empower students in reaching their social and academic goals.   

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, families and colleagues

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including excellent customer service skills with parents, students, staff, administration, and the community

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use district technology

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-culturally

  • Ability to motivate and inspire students; takes a student-centered approach 

  • Committed to educational equity 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in K-12 educational environment 

  • Prior experience as a Cultural Liaison

  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and function as a self-starter

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information

  • Experience working with students and families

  • Experience in restorative practices circle keeping

 

Essential functions of the position may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist Principal and Staff with implementing the program
  • Work in coordination with staff and/or administration to meet students/families needs

  • Assist school and district staff in deepening their understanding of and responsiveness to Spanish speaking cultures represented in District 197 schools

  • Assist in supporting student academic success and goals 

  • Partner with teaching staff to help build family connections 

  • Assist in developing and implementing support and outreach strategies for families

  • Other duties as assigned
